Observing Report 10th – 11th October 2024 (Aurora borealis)

Posted by on October 16th 2024 in My vids, Observing Reports, Video (YouTube, Vimeo etc.)

Over the years we've been to Iceland, The Faeroes, Norway, Denmark, the far NW of Scotland and various dark-sky locations... each time we've had reasonable expectations of seeing the aurora borealis... and each time we didn't see it. Who would have thought that we'd get our first ever view of it from our back garden?

Here you go. ~3 hours condensed into a few minutes. Canon 1000D, 10mm, ISO 800, 15 second subs. 600 subs converted CR2 > tif in PS, resized to 1620x1080 in Irfanview, 4fps avi created in MakeAVI. It's best viewed in full-screen as it's 1080px high. Enjoy.

Note to self: clean the lens next time.

Just checking in

Are you still here? Beyond all expectations, I am!

I completed the Wainwrights last year. The UK National Parks and Coastal Paths are next, starting this year.

I'm looking forward to my five-year haemo clinic when I'll be discharged from the "sufferer" list and switched to the "survivor" list, to be "remotely" monitored by my Anthony Nolan Clinical Nurse Specialist.

If you're lucky, I'll put up some posts about all of that.

If you're very lucky, I won't.
