Too much baggage?

UPDATE 11/05/2012...

The retailer whose ad was featured here has been in touch to reassure me that the ad was published with no intent to offend anyone.

The retailer has pulled the ad campaign and therefore it made sense that I should pull the original content of this post.

Thanks to G for contacting me regarding this matter, it's a sign of a good retailer that they're on the ball and have a responsible and considerate attitude to these matters.

Parlez-vous NHS?

 I just love forms...

especially when they're worded so well...

Now, let me think... would I ever do any of those things for 24 hours? Probably not, but the 24-hour drinking thing sounds interesting. Driving for 24 hours would be a waste of time and fuel seeing as I have no current plans to go anywhere far away. Carrying children as a defence against dizziness does seem to be an extreme therapy so I'm glad that I mustn't do that for a day and a night. Moreover, in the event of impaired judgement it's probable that I wouldn't lend any credence to any of these warnings anyway.

Oh, and the notion that a kettle is a machine is a tad daft, IMO.

Perhaps I'm reading these forms too literally.

Little room to manoeuvre

Allegedly it's no longer OK to suggest that a woman's place is in the kitchen.

Fair enough.

In a bizarre twist, however, in the building where I was helping out with some PAT Testing today it seems that the kitchen's place is in the Ladies:

This must be a one-off, I thought. Down to the constraints of the arrangement of the building, or because of the whims of the planners, or something like that.

But by strange coincidence, the same situation exists at the other end of the building.

Some might suggest that there's just a hint of gender-discrimination going on there.

But then again, all this is in a solicitors' office.

More W.C. than P.C., I'd say.

I'm sorry that there's not been much meaningful blogging going on here recently. I'll try to make amends.

There are a few things pending, not world-class stuff but what do you expect for nowt?

  • I've had a couple of nights using the wooden boxes that masquerade as my observatory. Some planets and plenty of Messier objects have been squinted at. You can expect reports as soon as I've processed the pics.
  • I've not been fell-walking for far too long. In order to rectify this I've booked a weekend at YHA Patterdale, 9th - 11th December, I feel the need to wander around a few of Wainwright's Eastern Fells. Hopefully there'll be snow. Holler if you're likely to be around there that weekend in need of a beer.
  • I'm testing a soft-shell. It has a hood that can be detached. I'll bet that fussy Sloman chappie won't like it though 😈

Laters.

Baffled… again

It's all a tad confusing down at the George Eliot Hospital ITU....

Fail 1: When visiting on Friday I was accompanied by a child and an adult, and all three of us were allowed at the bedside at the same time. This afternoon the visiting-party was me and two children, but on arrival I was told that only two people were allowed at the bedside so we would have to take turns. Somehow I was supposed to comply with that decree and with the rule that all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. I still can't figure out how to do that.

Fail 2: It seems like the Unit isn't always the Intensive Therapy Unit. Staff also referred to it as the Intensive Care Unit, the Intensive Treatment Unit, the Critical Care Unit and another title that I can't recall. Just to add to the confusion, there is a separate Critical Care area. Ask for directions and it's a Q&A session to figure out where you really need to go. It isn't just the staff though - signs and posters have the same confusing terminology. It's hassle and/or stress that ITU-patient visitors can do without.

Best of all, though, is Fail 3: Usage of communications devices... just look at these signs on the ITU security-doors:

Clear as mud

as are my pics (taken with the phone)

Keep left, right?
