A run of good form

Posted by on September 13th 2018 in Just for fun, Pub Quiz

Quiz-wise, it's all been going unexpectedly well recently:

  • 7th August: 4th
  • 8th August: 1st (Charity Quiz)
  • 14th August: 3rd
  • 21st August: 2nd
  • 28th August: 1st
  • 4th September: 2nd
  • 11th September: 1st

One of the other teams keeps a book of nerdy stats about such things, I'll see if I can get hold of more data from them to put things in perspective. I feel a chart coming on!

Nick reckons that we should apply to go on Pointless, I think that we have neither the discipline nor the sobriety required for such a venture:

A charity pub quiz was held at the Red Lion last night.

They say it's not about the winning, it's about the taking part, but we were the only regular Red Lion quiz team in the mix, so it fell to us to uphold the honour and reputation of the home venue. We ended up winning by an unexpectedly-wide margin. I think that the stimulating effect of the excellent curry was a contributory factor.

The event raised over £438 for A Gift To Lift, and a good night was had by all.

You can count yourselves lucky that the winning team's photo-opportunity was declined, so there are no mug-shots of the usual suspects, but here's a snap of half of the Bog Wardens' booty:

10th October 2017 - not the first time we'd won the Red Lion pub quiz, but the first time we'd won after the hostess started taking pics of the winners to post on the pub's Facebook page. That night we were relatively sober:

Our next win was on 9th January 2018, and we'd had a few too many Guinnesseseses by the time the camera was wielded:

Someone, who will remain nameless but who features in both of the pics above, commented that we weren't very photogenic in that shot. We couldn't deny it, but we decided that we'd not be caught out again. Plans were put in place to ensure our photo-worthiness regardless of us being under the affluence of incahol.

Last night the plan was executed. It was a resounding success, all the more satisfying because of the surprise factor:
