What’s in a name?

News just in from the Manning household is that John and Steph now have a beautiful baby girl named Sierra Jane. Well done, folks!

It's interesting to note that outdoors folk still name their kids after places that they hold dear. Ian and A Pennington have their Skye Farsai, we have our Elanor Skye and Annabelle Shannon, no doubt there are many more proudly-named geo-kids out there. Long may the trend continue, I say.

Luckily, my parents weren't as outdoorsy as most, otherwise I'd probably have been called "Osmington Mills", which sounds quite posh but wouldn't have fit with my working-class background.

Blimey! Now there's a thought Arms Park Sloman... (Dad was a rugby nut)

Good point, oh Bearded One. Also in contention was "Fetterresso Forest Manning", but it turned out to be later than that. If you get my drift.

Steve Perry (he of the Munros in Winter and the Lands End to Johnny Groats via all the maniland 3000ers) and his partner Sarah named their first-born Gracie Schiehallion. Their second daughter is Scarlet Aurora but I don't think even Steve's been as high as the Borealis.

I hope that none of these folks are actually named after the places in which they were conceived, else I had a very seedy start indeed. I don't want to have to ask my folks the question.
