Categories: Blog on Site

I just clicked on the "Syrup" link in the footer of this blog, to keep up with current events there.

Imagine my surprise to get the following message:

You have been blacklisted from the website for spamming.

That's curious. All I've done is submit a couple of constructive comments and asked a few questions about the theme. Nick's responses have all been fine.

It's got to be an error unless my site's been hacked/hijacked, but I can't contact Nick Berlette (the theme's author) to discuss this matter, as I can't access his contact page due to the ban.

Hmm. I'm a bit stuck here.

Nick, if you're reading this, please whitelist me, or at least let me know why I'm blacklisted, as I've no idea what I've done wrong.

Hmmm. I think his site's unwell.

I had the jolly clever idea to cut & paste your post above & include it in a chatty wee comment on the Syrup thing.

I shouldn't be banned, 'cos I've never heard of it before, obviously. 😀

First attempt nothing happened. 2nd try, it looked as if something was happening, & I think the comment post tally increased by one, but there's no new comment appearing when I go back there.

I diagnose some sort of t'internet breakage-type thing.

  2. Me too, Scott. And the wee whirly thing's going roon' an' roon' still. Maybe on a siesta, though he seems a busy chappy.

I looked at the folk who had commented before, and none were using the theme, nor reported similar problems.

I dropped him an email and copy/pasted it to BG! Probably all done on automatic.

    Have you tried:
    Syrup! Klaatu barada nikto!

  3. BG! says:

Thanks, folks. That's a few more favours I owe you.

  4. Scott says:

Aye Duncan. I had the same experience with the whirly thing. Annoying after a while, eh?

  5. Hey, I've been banned for spamming the site too. How about you, Scott?

I thought Spain had got rid of Franco, seems his spirit of oppression lives on.

    No pasaran!

  6. BG! says:

I'm really sorry to have got you both into this mess.

  7. Sir, it's no skin off my hooter if some other chap causes a problem. I just blogged to that effect. Not my problem, I just refuse to get worked up about something that unimportant. You might try the WordPress help forums, otherwise just change to a theme where you don't have this hastle. IMO.

  8. Scott says:

Oops - I've not been following developments here, 'cos I've been drinking beer and listening to Warren Zevon. It's what Fridays are for.

I'll go & see if I'm a banned spammer too.

    Back momentarily.

  9. Scott says:

Er yes, I'm a banned spammer too.

But the good news is that Stef's revealed what that bent bit of aluminium was.

  10. Hey Stef. Please excuse the blacklisting problem, that was a little hiccup that is_human() apparently had. I appreciate the constructive comments you've left and I would never intentionally block you.

Sorry for any mix up, and could you elaborate a bit on the bugs with the comment form?

  11. Looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship

  12. BG! says:

    Hi Nick.

Thanks for the reply and for unblocking me. Good luck with sorting out your is_human() thingy.

  13. Quite the page there 😛 . I believe I may quote that later on...

Have your say - submit a comment
