f***d & t**k relent under pressure

Categories: A bit of a rant, Thanks

I took Hamish's advice and sent a fairly detailed email to the address that he provided in his comment.

The mail was passed to Kris Bezdyk, Director of Information and Systems, who responded quickly with a mail that stated:

Although you have been removed from our general mailing lists, you are a goldcard customer and as such we mailed you our mini catalogue as we did all our goldcard customers, relating to the new store opening in Leicester.
Secondly as a matter of course we do not delete online accounts.

Well, that lot didn't tally with what I'd been told over a year ago... I had been told that my Goldcard membership would be terminated and that the card would be deactivated. And as for the non-deletion of online accounts, well that's plain stupid. Like I said in my reply to the mail, what happens if, for example, an account-holder dies? Surely the account gets closed?

Anyway, I told them that I was asking just once more for my details to be deleted, and that if I didn't get action I would refer the matter to the appropriate authorities, as recommended by Aktoman.

That did the trick. Kris has sent confirmation that both accounts are closed, so I'll not get any more mail. I'm happy with that.

So, thanks are due to Hamish, Aktoman, Kris and, of course, to Mr. Richard Gundle. Cheers, folks!

Now, I know of another Kris that's reluctant to close accounts... maybe I should send him a link to this set of posts, just to show him how things get done in the real world.
